☕ What We Found on a Tremont Side Street

Boring weekends are not in Westsider's vocabularies

TOGETHER WITH NüIQ WELLNESS LOUNGE & MED SPA

Good morning, Westsiders.

We thought we knew Tremont. We were wrong.

Jodie and I hit up Taste of Tremont this weekend—drinks on the patio, packed streets, live music. It had all the usual stuff.

But on the walk back to our car, something weird happened.

We turned down a side street we’d never noticed before. Picture-perfect. Quiet. Almost cinematic.

There was a woman outside, casually chilling with her tabby cat, Jupiter, and we had a delightful chat.

And it hit me:

Most people think excitement comes from chasing the next big thing. But sometimes it’s hiding on a quiet street you normally wouldn’t walk down.

Lesson learned: Curiosity > autopilot.

Whether it’s in your city, your business, or your daily routine—look again. Wonder is hiding in plain sight.

Today we’re buzzing on:

  • 🍻 We’re bullish on the Westside’s most up-and-coming neighborhood

  • 🦋 Avon’s hidden gem gives you wings

  • 🤼 A packed week of 27 events

Hope to see you there!

COMMUNITY BLEND

🏁 Karting Dream Is Almost a Reality 📍 Lorain

Professional kart demonstrations open house | via Chronicle Telegram

Lorain’s east side just got a major adrenaline boost with the $12 million Lorain Ohio Kartplex, which showed off its brand-new 0.82-mile competition track during a public open house.

Built on the site of a former landfill, this once-doubted project now features private garages, a timing tower, and a future event space with food and drinks from Collision Bend Brewing Co.

The first official race happens August 17 (no cost for spectators!), kicking off the Black River Kart Club series. Here’s what caught me off guard…these competition karts can hit speeds up to 100 mph!

City leaders hope the Kartplex becomes a community hub that continues the growth on Lorain’s east side. Full article

The Butterfly House at the Miller Nature Preserve is one of the most unexpectedly delightful experiences you can have in Northeast Ohio—and it costs nothing.

NEW BUILDING

New Year-Round Brewpub Coming to Lorain Ave. 📍 Ohio City

Here at The Westside Buzz, we are super bullish on all the exciting things happening on Lorain Ave heading west from W. 25th Street. The following just adds to the buzz.

A long-abandoned gas station and historic building at Lorain Ave & W. 38th is set to become Noble Beast Biergarten — Ohio City’s first-ever year-round beer garden, led by local craft brew favorite Noble Beast Brewing Co.

As someone who spent a Summer abroad in Germany (humblebrag), I can attest that a Biergarten that serves as a community meeting place is a pillar of a thriving city.

Instead of another noisy beer hall, the space will channel a chill, European-style vibe with communal seating, greenery, a greenhouse bar for winter sun, and plenty of local flavor.

The plan includes renovating the 115-year-old building, adding a cozy cocktail lounge, a new bar, and a plant-filled greenhouse with garage doors that open when the weather’s nice.

Locals Brad Nosan and Shaun Yasaki (both longtime Ohio City residents) are behind the project — and if all goes well, this walkable, family-friendly spot could become a major bright spot in one of Cleveland’s fastest-rising neighborhoods.

NEW FOOD SPOT

Not Your Average Hot Dog Cart 📍 Tremont

When Lava Lounge closed its doors last month, Tremont lost a legendary spot for post-bar munchies. But just as one grill went cold, another fired up — and it's slinging gourmet hot dogs with sass and class.

Enter Wonder Weenies, the brainchild of Phillip Hockey and Paul Norris, two Dante Restaurant vets who took one look at the late-night food desert outside Coda and said, “This town needs weenies.”

Instead of settling for sad gas station snacks, the duo invested in a Detroit-built hot dog cart, fired up some eight-inch all-beef beauties, and started building the kind of dogs you dream about at 1 a.m. (and maybe regret in the morning).

Back in the day, my buddy Joe and I had grand plans to launch a late-night sloppy joe cart called Sloppy Bros (Truly terrible—I know). Alas, it never made it past the 2 AM brainstorming stage. But I like to think we walked so Wonder Weenies could run.

Here’s what’s on the late-night menu:

🌶️ Classic chili cheese (for the purists)

🦞 Lobster roll dog with garlic and butter (fancy folks, this one’s $15)

🐷 BBQ pork dog with slaw and sauce

🌽 Elote dog with corn, white cheese, tajin, and cilantro (summer in a bun)

You can find Wonder Weenies in the parking lot at 2247 Professor Ave, starting around 9 p.m. Tuesday through the weekend. Full article
