Your Westside guide to a great weekend

Happy Friday, everyone!

Today is one of my favorite days of the year—National Caviar Day!

If I’m being totally honest, I had trouble thinking of an intro for today’s newsletter and stumbled on a niche National Day calendar after a Google search.

I do think The Buzz is a lot like caviar. It’s bite-sized and makes you feel fancy when consuming it!

Today we’re buzzing on:

  • 🍌 Three lucky readers will get fruit bowls on the house to Lakewood’s newest spot

  • 🥁 A packed weekend of live music

  • 🩺 How Avon Lake can help shape national health

We hope you have a great weekend. See you out there!

COMMUNITY BLEND

Want to do Something for the Greater Good? 📍 Avon Lake

Lorain County has been selected to participate in NHANES, a vital national health survey conducted by the CDC that helps shape public health policy and medical practices across the country.

This is a big deal for our community—data collected from randomly selected residents will directly influence how health resources are allocated and how doctors nationwide understand diet, lifestyle, and disease trends.

If you receive a letter or knock at your door from NHANES, know that your participation isn’t just important—it’s part of something much bigger that can benefit all of us.

Our community has been chosen, so let’s make sure we show up by taking part if you have the chance.

ATMs This Weekend are Spitting Out More Than Green 📍 Downtown

From July 19–22, KeyBank is bringing some serious flavor to Cleveland. At three big local events, they’re turning boring old ATMs into Automated Thank You Machines that spit out tacos, treats, and feel-good surprises instead of cash. It’s like if your bank went through a mid-life crisis and opened up a food truck.

KeyBank debuted these Automated Thank You Machines last year in Cleveland and Seattle, and they were a hit. Click here or the photo above to watch people’s reactions.

Here are the three special events to catch a KeyBank taco:

  1. National Urban League Community & Family Day at Huntington Convention Center from 10 AM - 3 PM on Saturday, July 19

  2. The Jake at the Guardians game from noon - 3 PM on Sunday, July 20

  3. Asian Lantern Festival 5k Fun Run at Metroparks Zoo from 7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22

NEW BUSINESS

The Westside’s First Fruit Stand Opens 📍 Lakewood

The Fruit Stand in Lakewood is officially open, and Jodie and I went to experience it for ourselves.

The store is clean, bright, and fun. The fruit bowls are fresh and crazy delicious.

My bowl? Strawberry + peach açaí base with strawberries, pineapple, red grapes… and a drizzle that made me do a happy dance right on Detroit road.

Here’s the cool part 👇 Jason (the fruit wizard behind TFS) is gifting Buzz readers three complimentary fruit bowls!

Dave and Buster’s is Reimagined 📍 Westlake

Like a Phoenix rising from a pile of half-eaten mozzarella sticks and forgotten arcade tickets, the Westlake Dave & Buster’s is back. They also got a new sign, which is a nice touch.

From the company’s press release, D&B’s is reimagined, reloaded, and ready to party starting today.

What’s new? It looks like they are going for a more immersive experience, which is corporate speak for “will be costing you more to power up your D&B Power Cards”.

I wonder if they’ll accept my Kohl’s cash?

Seriously, though, it sounds like they’ll have a few upgrades like Private Game Suites, a Human Crane Game (yes, you are the claw), and a 40-foot screen big enough to see the blades of grass when watching the Guards game.

REAL ESTATE

Diner Bar Owner’s Lakefront Estate For Sale 📍 Edgewater

Local restaurateur behind Dinerbar on Clifton is looking to downsize from this magnificent Lakefront house. When I read how much he bought it for, I almost choked on my coffee.

He bought the 1912 Edgewater estate for under $600,000 in 2004 and spared no expense restoring its original charm while modernizing for 2025.

Personally, this is my dream house, and the desire to take something with potential and turn it into something amazing lives inside of me. Who wants to open a diner with us?

ADOPTABLE PET OF THE WEEK

Ladybug is a 9-month-old Terrier mix who overcame pneumonia, malnourishment, and a rough start in life coming from an overcrowded kennel.

Thanks to loving care and a devoted foster, she’s now thriving. She’s sweet, affectionate, nearly house-trained, and loves people and calm dog companions.

Ladybug will be ready for her forever home after her spay recovery—could that home be yours?

🧠 TRIVIA

Lake Erie does have a Sturgeon population, but harvesting their eggs is illegal in Ohio. So, ingenious Clevelanders invented Cleveland Caviar.
