Westsiders are passionate and loyal (sometimes to a fault) about their hometown teams. The hottest topic at offices, family dinners, and local watering holes all around Cleveland is where will the Browns be playing in 2028.

It seems like a long way down the road, but the discourse is hotter than a tea kettle. If you have been living underneath a rock, or on top of a Tim Misny billboard (an extremely funny visual), here is a quick breakdown of how we got here:

  • The Cleveland Browns lease with the City of Cleveland at Huntington Bank Stadium ends in 2028

  • Dee and Jimmy Haslam, the owners of the Browns, want to build a $2.4 bn dome in Brook Park

  • The City wants them to renovate the current stadium or build it where Burke Lakefront sits.

Ken Prendergast, dropped a bomb yesterday when he posted this article that explained how Dee and Jimmy Haslam sent a sneaky email to their fellow board members of the Greater Cleveland Partnership.

The email happened to arrive the day before Mayor Justin Bibb was to plead the City’s case in front of the 70-member board of the region’s top CEOs.

No matter what happens, the issue will continue to be more controversial than asking Westsiders their favorite pizza place. (Il Rione, Harlow’s, Cents…BTW)

New Business

Play (and have a) Ball! Down on East 4th ⚾

East 4th Street will look and feel a lot different next year. A new outdoor baseball-themed bar called the Dugout is slated to take over the space where the valet on East 4th currently sits.

I am a child of the 90s, with the Indians and Jacobs Field monopolizing most of my childhood memories. If they can pull off a similar look to The Jake, it should strike the nostalgia chord with many a Clevelander.

Additionally, East 4th will be activated as a DORA (designated outdoor refreshment area) so you can walk freely with your refreshments. With the temps in the teens, as I write this, this news comes at the perfect time.
