🤲 Give

I know that we spend a ton of time and money giving gifts to loved ones during the holiday season. Nothing says Christmas like exchanging Chipotle gift cards.

If you are in the giving mood, consider helping a West Side family in need. Jacob Cleary needs a service dog to help him with everyday functions and to protect him in case of seizures.

🏒 Puck

The Lake Erie Monsters are buzzing this year on pace to set an all-time attendance record. They are averaging over 10,500 fans per game, which is 10% higher than any pre-covid year!

The boost in attendance can be explained by great programs like the Teddy Bear Toss, The Cavaliers’ season success, and Cleveland being the best darn sports town in the country.

🍨 Ice Cream

No need to freak out if you are an ice cream freak. The Rocky River location of Mitchell’s Homemade will be closed for a few months starting yesterday. Even in the cold grip of Cleveland’s winter, I will drive to get good ice cream. Visit any of their other locations during this disruptions to get you through these trying times.

👩‍🏫 January 7th in Cleveland History

Postcard advertising the Plain Dealer from 1910 | Image courtesy of the J. Mark Souther Postcard Collection

The Cleveland Plain Dealer was founded on January 7th, 1842 by Joseph Gray. He and his brother purchased a failed outfit called, The Cleveland Advertiser, and spun up The Plain Dealer.

Gray was much more interested in politics than publishing. He left the business dealings to his Brother and was appointed Cleveland postmaster by President Franklin Pierce. Now THAT’S a fun fact.

The Plain Dealer, like many once-great newspapers, has gone the way of TRL, Acid-wash jeans, and puka shell necklaces. Gone too soon, but ready for a comeback?

Erieview Tower with the Galleria

Cleveland's transformation continues with the $218M Erieview Tower project. Look forward to luxury apartments, Ohio’s first W Hotel, a 38th-floor fine-dining hotspot, and a revamped Galleria. Construction’s already rolling, with completion set for late 2026.

TWB Goes to a Bar…

Lakewood’s One Star Bar is here, and it’s the city’s next hidden gem. It’s just three weeks old and already serving up serious neighborhood bar vibes. Here are three things that set it apart:

  • Mega cozy raised “living room” with comfy a** couch

  • Wallet-friendly prices

  • Staples that slap

Bonus: the Brussels sprouts are elite. (And trust me, I’m a Brussels aficionado with a ranking system to prove it.)

GM and Co-Founder John Calo isn’t planning to overcomplicate things. He’s already nailed the formula with McGinty’s Pub, and now he’s giving Lakewood exactly what it needs: a chill, neighborhood spot with staying power.

One Star Bar is worth a special trip from anywhere on the west side. I know we will be back to try out their new cocktail/mocktail menu that is dropping soon.

Stop in and tell them The Buzz sent you!
