Good morning Westsiders! The Westside Buzz is the only newsletter for Westsiders, made by Westsiders. If you haven’t heard, Casimir the cat made a mess of his Pierogis, which obviously means that our Spring will be sloppy.

🏞️ Community Park getting a much-needed facelift | North Olmsted

Community Park in North Olmsted is undergoing a $6.1 million, two-phase upgrade. The project will see the addition of 3 new baseball fields, paved paths, crosswalks, a concession stand, and upgraded landscaping.

🦢 Goose saved, recovering at Firestation | Bay Village

Firefighters and first responders don’t just save people, they save feathered friends, too.

While out doing ice rescue training, A Shift spotted a goose stuck to the ice, frozen in place like when Jodie catches me getting Ice Cream from the freezer without asking if she wants some.

Its back feathers were glued to the ice, and it needed some serious help!

The crew carefully freed the little guy and, realizing he was too cold and weak to fly, took him back to the fire station for a warm-up. The goose is resting up and will be released once he’s back to full strength. 👏 We extend a big Westside Buzz thank you to all our first responders!

This good girl is ready to be one lucky family’s Valentine. Pixie is gentle, great on a leash, and enjoys exploring the world led by her snout.

🍅 West Side Market construction to start this Summer | West 25th

A recent $1.5 million donation from KeyBank allows for the first stage of the West Side Market’s master plan to begin as soon as this summer. The master plan is aimed to improve almost every aspect of the gem on the west side.

Renderings of improvements planned for the East Arcade

Proposed improvements to the East Arcade would update the infrastructure to provide building-wide air conditioning and make it easier for the vendors to operate. Currently, vendors need to go outside to lug their goods up from the basement. A new elevator planned for the arcade will make it much easier and faster.

Expect the construction to be a bit of a nuisance this summer, but it is for the long-term good of the West Side Market.

The results from last week’s trivia had all of Buzz Nation scratching their heads. Only 33 of 412 participants answered the question correctly!

🎭 Cleveland Public Theatre just received its biggest gift ever | Gordon Square

The late costume designer, Joan Yellen Horvitz just gifted a whopping $6 million to the Cleveland Public Theatre. This game-changing donation will fuel the future of Cleveland’s performing arts, with $4 million funding a new Joan Yellen Horvitz Director Fellowship (managed by The Cleveland Foundation) and $2 million going toward the renovation of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church on CPT’s campus in Gordon Square.

Joan Yellen Horvitz was a force in the theater world, known for her passion for contemporary productions and eye for costume and design. Now, her legacy will live on by cultivating new creative talent and expanding CPT’s artistic footprint. This is a big win for Cleveland’s live theatre scene!
