Plus: Pierogi week is coming and Centro Villa reopens
Welcome to the Weekend, Buzz Nation. This week in Pennsylvania, a farm show held a contest for the best mullet. I thought I’d seen some wild hairstyles at Browns games, but this week, Pennsylvania raised the bar. I’ll put a few of my favorites in the ‘Fun Finds’ section.
The ‘Joe Dirt’ style is a personal favorite of mine, and Jodie said that if we get to one million subscribers, I have the green light to get one. It’s always important to have lofty goals…
Today we’re buzzing on:
2nd Annual Warm the Westside Coat Drive Happy Hour
Pat, I’ll take a ‘W’
Pierogi Week returns
We hope you have a great weekend. See you out there!

2nd Annual Warm the Westside Coat Drive With the Cavs

Hi everybody. Tony and Jodie here. We are very fortunate to have a safe place to call home and plenty of warm clothes to get us through the winter. But that isn’t the case for some Westsiders. 30% of Cleveland residents are experiencing food and warm clothing insecurity.
We are hosting a happy hour and winter clothing drive on January 26 at Rocket Arena. The Cavs are opening up the Corona
Cantina overlooking the arena early for us Westside Buzz VIPs starting at 5 PM where we will mingle, grab a drink (or two), and collect a big pile of gently used or new winter coats (Men’s & Women’s).
We have two sections of seats to choose from:
Section 211 - $62
Section M117 - $99
$10 from each ticket will be donated directly to The City Mission
If we can get 50 Westsiders to buy tickets, the first drink is on me!
All attendees will be entered to win premium seats to an upcoming Cavs game, plus you get an extra entry if you bring winter coat(s) to donate.
If you don’t want to attend the game, but would like to donate winter coats, reply to this email or drop us a line and we will coordinate with you!
We would love to see you there!

Man Spins Big on Wheel of Fortune 📍 Olmsted Township

Danny Roman grew up watching Wheel of Fortune with his parents in Olmsted Township. This fall, he made it onto the show—and walked away with $17,068, including a $7,668 Alaskan cruise. The 2012 Fairview High grad, now a tech customer success manager, auditioned on a whim, then got the call while traveling through Asia: Could he be in L.A. in three weeks?
He trained with Wordle, feared going viral for a dumb guess, and kept the outcome secret under NDA until the episode aired Jan. 9. Though he missed the bonus round puzzle, he avoided national humiliation and gave his lifelong Wheel-loving parents a front-row seat at the taping.
The best part? Watching the show now hits different. “It’s a whole new experience,” he said.
Proof that sometimes yelling at the TV pays off—just add airfare and a little luck. Full story from John Benson

Cleveland Pierogi Week Returns January 19-25

Nothing signals a new year in Cleveland quite like wishing you booked a trip to somewhere warm. A close second is the return of Cleveland Pierogi Week January 19–25.
Presented by Cleveland Magazine and Cleveland Scene, tons of spots are serving up $8 pierogi specials — from tried-and-true potato and cheese to bold fusion takes, local chefs are getting creative…almost downright out of control with Cleveland’s most beloved dumpling. It’s a delicious nod to the city’s deep Eastern European roots.

Westside Pour Over
East 4th - Corner Alley is getting a refresh thanks to Hangry Brand. Founder of Hangry Brands, Jason Beudert, says it is a natural addition to their family of restaurants.
Science - Have you felt run down and tired the last few days? You’re not alone. Cleveland Clinic allergist Dr. Dylan Timberlake said these symptoms are tied to both changes in air pressure and exposure to cold, dry air, which can irritate the nose and sinuses. “Some people, they're sensitive to (barometric changes), and so that can kind of throw people off when they feel like they have more sinus pressure (and) sinus pain,” Timberlake said. Strongsville - Paul Cody and the Erie Riders are a folk/70s rock band from the ‘Ville are dropping a 17-song double album.

Harry Buffalo in Lakewood Is Closing
And we’ll leave it at that.
The Lakewood location of Harry Buffalo has closed its doors. As for the ownership behind it—the George family—plenty has already been written and said elsewhere. There’s no need to revisit it here.
What we will say is this: at The Westside Buzz, our goal is to highlight people, businesses, and projects that make the Westside a better place. Based on a long and well-documented history, we’ve decided we won’t be covering or promoting future ventures tied to this family, including a reported new concept planned for Lakewood.
Zoom out:
There are too many great local operators doing good work by lifting up employees, neighbors, and the community. That’s where our focus will stay.

Cini Apertivo Bar and Small Plates Greenlit 📍 Lakewood
A new Italian-style cocktail spot is headed to 16806 Madison Ave (Brewella’s is moving to a bigger space). Lakewood locals Evan Fogarty and Fabrizio Cario just got the green light to open Cini, an upscale aperitivo bar serving espresso, cocktails, and small plates in a cozy, seated setting. The owners are being mindful of their upstairs neighbors so you won’t be hearing loud music or having group dinners on a patio. Think Milan meets Madison, minus the noise complaints. My Favorite Mullets from the PA Farm show 2026
As mentioned in the intro, here are three of my favorites from the Mullet Contest at the PA Farm Show.
This guy took down top prize for his homage to one of my favorite movies, ‘Joe Dirt’

This kid smacks dingers at his little league games. One critique…I wouldn’t mind seeing some lightning bolts in the side.

I can relate to this fellas whispy, white trash facial hair. Great volume on the mane…Impressive stuff.

Lakewood-Rocky River Rotary Breaks the Bank
The Lakewood-Rocky River Rotary Foundation just handed out a record $84K in grants, its biggest total ever. Most of the money—$61K across 24 grants—went straight to local nonprofits tackling everything from hunger to small biz support. Big winners include Meals on Wheels, Lakewood Alive, and Lakewood Charitable Assistance Corp., each snagging $5K to fuel their missions. It’s the most grants and the most dollars in club history, proving that doing good scales. Rotary’s not just spinning wheels—they’re writing checks that matter.
