Walk the Westside Fundraiser | 59 things to do this weekend
Good morning, Buzz Nation!
Fall is here, the leaves are turning, the air is cooling, and every abandoned strip mall is transforming into a Spirit Halloween. Some things in life are temporary. The Buzz isn’t one of them.
Here’s what we’ve got cooking today:
🚶 Jodie and I are walking 20 miles for charity
🍻 Mosaic Brewing brings rooftop views to Tremont
🎃 Bay Middle School is launching pumpkins like it’s medieval times
See you out there, Westsiders.

WALK THE WESTSIDE
We can’t believe the day is almost here. We are equal parts excited and nervous to see how tomorrow goes.
To recap, if you’re new here—Jodie and I are walking from The Rock Hall to Veterans Memorial Park (Avon Point) tomorrow, Saturday, October 4, at 8 AM.
Why? Well…I thought it would be fun, and Jodie is down for anything, so she agreed.
Buzz Nation suggested we do it for charity. After leaving it up to a vote, you all chose Laura’s Home Women’s Crisis Center and City Dogs of Cleveland to receive an equal split of the money raised.
Boy, have you all delivered! We have currently raised over $4,500.
We want to continue the thank yous to Tyler Betts, Sarah Rose, Margaret Greenwood, Susan Withers, Chelsea Sabo, Lorna Springer, Laura Murru, Emily McIlvaine, Mary Van Bergen, Ian Malpass, Briana Patterson, Lisa Krause, Cheryl Cannon, Stephanie Barry, Sarah Wagner, Lee Ann Berlyoung, Jeff Briggs, Radiant Electric Heat, Jennifer Franko, Cory Muscara (our resident mindfulness expert), Erica Okulovich, Loft 40, Colby Nelson & Dezenhall Resources, Ryan Kelly, Laurie Campbell, Perry Bruno, Stephanie Termine, Elaine Engel, Caitlin Somerville, Chelsey Bower, Scott & Toniann Gipson, Tania Benites, Bridget Bringman, Katie Kelly, Claudia Dillinger, Josie Hyland of Josie Bakes, Christine Gray, Debbie Gizzi, Dan & Kim Wenzel, Lee Glover, Dr. Ronald Kolodziej, Morgan Reminder, Brandon Bower, Evan Steele, Matt Hartman, Jenny & Drew McIntyre, & Tony Cianciolo.
So here is the route:
FIRST LEG

Leave Rock Hall 8 AM —> Arrive Brewnuts 9:30 AM
SECOND LEG

Leave Brewnuts 9:45 AM —> Arrive Around the Corner 12 PM
THIRD LEG

Leave Around the Corner 12:15 PM —> Arrive Chatty’s Pizza 2:45 PM
FINAL LEG

Leave Chatty’s 3 PM —> Arrive Veterans Memorial Park 5 PM
This is all estimated, so if you'd like to join or follow along, we will be posting live updates on our Instagram!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS
Golden Tickets Aren’t Just for Willy Wonka 📍 Lakewood

The annual Lakewood Chocolate Walk takes over Downtown on Thursday, October 23, from 6—9 PM, where just 350 lucky ticket-holders get to stroll through 20+ “Sweet Stops,” each serving up a one-of-a-kind chocolate creation.
VIPs get early access to a decadent reception with wine, beer, and artisan treats, but whether you snag General Admission or VIP, act fast—this event sells out faster than Augustus Gloop floating down a chocolate river.
WESTSIDE POUR OVER
Cleveland: Here’s something you don’t hear every day—a Starbucks is closing. The Playhouse Square location is closing as part of a nationwide initiative to improve financial performance and maintain store experience.
Ohio City: The Pierogi Bucket is serving up flash-fried, bite-sized potato-and-cheddar pierogies by the bucket (with sauces like garlic parmesan and ranch) for pickup at the new Roundstone Pavilion. We can’t wait to try the kielbasa ‘rogis!
Bay Village: Bay Middle School’s seventh annual Punkin’ Chunkin’ takes flight Oct. 9 at Cahoon Park, where sixth-graders launch pumpkins with homemade slingshots, catapults, and trebuchets. *The winners get to launch pumpkins at their least favorite neighbor’s house.
*I totally made this up. The Westside Buzz does not condone punkins' being chucked at people or property.
COMMUNITY BLEND
Historical Landmark Preservation 📍 Avon Lake

The Avon Lake Historical Society has officially designated the former Avon Lake Power Plant’s aircraft warning beacon as a historical landmark. This 80-pound beacon once kept pilots safe by marking the towering smokestacks that stood guard along the lakeshore.
As ALHS President Tony Tomanek put it: “That makes it not just a piece of equipment, but a truly rare and valuable connection to our community’s industrial heritage.”

NEW BUSINESS
Cleveland’s Newest Rooftop Patio 📍 Tremont
Cleveland has one of the most underrated skylines in the country. The problem? We don’t have many rooftops where you can actually enjoy it.
That’s why Mosaic Brewing feels like a big deal. Opening October 17th in Tremont, they’ve transformed the old Cleveland Marble Mosaic Co. building into a new community hub—complete with a rooftop patio that finally gives us the skyline views we deserve.
Expect 28 taps (beer, coffee, cocktails), plus paninis, pizzas, and shareables that will keep you hanging out well past sunset. Event rentals kick off in November, which means Cleveland will soon have a new go-to spot for celebrating anything worth celebrating.
Bookworms Rejoice 📍 Strongsville
A brand-new Barnes & Noble is swooping in to fill the literary gap left behind by the long-gone Borders.
Slated to open in 2026, this will be the chain’s sixth Northeast Ohio location—taking over the former Bed Bath & Beyond space right across from SouthPark Mall. Soon, instead of picking out shower curtains, you’ll be picking out your next great read.
