☕ Food & Wine just called the Westside the Midwest clambake capital

In partnership with

Good morning, Buzz Nation.

Friendly reminder that Halloween is two weeks away! It’s not too late to pull off that epic costume you have been planning since July.

Who am I kidding? I’m going to run to Spirit Halloween on the 30th and grab the last thing on the shelf. Sexy nun, it is…

Today we’re buzzing on:

  • Clothing made in Cleveland

  • An interior design spotlight in Lakewood

  • A Westside Olympic hopeful

We hope you have a great weekend. See you out there!

The Westside Knows Clams

As Westsiders, we are very proud that we are the fertile cradle of the Midwestern Clambake. This recent piece in Food & Wine positions Cleveland and specifically the Westside establishments Salty Mary’s, All Saints, Alley Cat, and the Westside Market as the epicenter of the yearly baptism of clams into baths of butter.

Is it the party? Is it the ability to slurp up a stick of melted butter under the guise of a dinner party? Is it something ingrained in us growing up on the shores of Lake Erie—just like how we tailgate the muni regardless of our team’s performance on the field.

I think it’s because people from our neck of the woods just know how to have a good time, and we always make the best of things, no matter what the season.

Found Surface, Made in Cleveland 📍 Flats, West Bank

You know those old industrial buildings along the West Bank of the Flats that feel like they’ve been asleep since the 80s?

Well, one of them might finally wake up—and it’s not turning into another brewery or apartment complex.

Since launching in 2021, Found Surface has grown from a small workshop into a full-scale Cleveland factory—with plans for 48 sewing tables, knitting machines, and enough space to double their team.

Founder Aidan Meany started it a few years ago, and since then they’ve quietly built a name for themselves—working with brands like The Cavs and The Cleveland Museum of Art. Not bad for a homegrown startup.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS

Jodie and I have spent plenty of nights salvaging a so-so dinner by watching old episodes of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. There’s something about the way he moved through the world — curious, blunt, hungry — that never gets old. I even read his book, Kitchen Confidential, a while back. Still one of my favorites.

If you’re a fan too, you might like this: on Thursday, October 23, La Ville Lumière is hosting a small evening with Zamir Gotta, Bourdain’s longtime travel companion and producer.

He’ll be sharing stories from their years on the road together, along with some cocktails, appetizers, and signed copies of his new book, The Fixer and the Chef. Sounds like a good night for anyone who still misses Bourdain’s way of seeing the world.

You might even catch The Westside Buzz there…

I have many random skills that still surprise Jodie almost daily. Juggling, old man sports (pool, darts, bowling), and the uncanny ability to remember obscure details from people’s lives that I’ve only met one time, to name a few.

Interior design is something completely alien to me. I don’t understand how people turn a completely empty room into an inviting, cohesive space that looks so good.

What do you think? Do you like how it was designed? Would you live there?

The Game is Changing

The internet was supposed to make it easier to build and connect. Somewhere along the way, we lost the plot.

beehiiv is changing that once and for all.

On November 13, they’re unveiling what’s next at their first-ever Winter Release Event. For the people shaping the future of content, community, and media, this is an event you can’t miss.

WESTSIDE POUROVER

Cleveland: Downtown just landed a historic $100 million agreement between Mayor Justin Bibb and the Haslam Sports Group that will finally jumpstart the city’s long-awaited lakefront transformation—turning the Browns’ current stadium site into a catalyst for new investment, public spaces, and development along the lake.

North Ridgeville: North Ridgeville’s own Izzy Geraci just added another highlight to her flag football journey—catching a touchdown for Team USA in front of 70,000 fans during the Bills-Patriots game—part of a whirlwind career that’s taken her from local fields to the world stage as she chases her Olympic dream.

Lorain Ave: Cavs guard Darius Garland swapped the court for the kitchen this week, hosting a surprise pizza-making popup at Cent’s on Lorain Ave, one of Cleveland’s coolest pie spots. DG rolled dough, slung sauce, and raised money for the Darius Garland Foundation while doing it.

NEW BUSINESS

Paris Comes to Clifton | Cleveland

Remember when La Ville Lumière took over the old Clifton Wine Bar spot and instantly became a Westside favorite? Well, they’re not stopping there.

Think: gourmet cheeses, cured meats, made-to-order crepes, and rich Parisian-style hot chocolate that’ll make you forget Cleveland weather for a minute. They’ll also have coffee, seasonal sandwiches, small gifts, and fresh flowers—basically everything you’d find strolling a cobblestone alley in Paris, minus the flight.
