☕ Downtown Cleveland Is Getting a Dome
S’mores, Sports Domes, and Saving Dogs... Let’s Go!
Good morning, Buzz Nation! We are reporting to you live from the Westside Buzz HQ (our living room) feeling the effects of a fantastic long Cleveland Weekend.
We saw many loved ones, swam in approximately 2.5 different bodies of water (do kiddie pools count as half?), survived a rollerblade AND a handstand fall, ate a combined two pints of ice cream, and five s’mores. Sheesh!
We hope you had an amazing holiday weekend!
Oh hey, while we have you… We’re co-hosting a charity event with Brewnuts THIS THURSDAY from 5:30-8 PM. If you don’t have plans, we would love to see you there!
Onward and upward.
Today we’re buzzing on:
🍿 A new sports dome is coming to downtown
🔌 Westsiders brace for more power outages
💃 26 fun things to do this week
Let’s make it a great week!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS
We’re Co-hosting a Happy Meow’r for Charity 📍 Brewnuts, Gordon Square

Looking for something fun to do this Thursday, help out a much-deserving charity, AND meet us in person? (talk about a triple threat!)
Stop into Brewnuts this Thursday, which is National Kitten Day, from 5:30 - 8 PM and enjoy some cat-themed donuts, delicious brews, and pet some adorable, adoptable kittens.

These two will be there for the petting!
The Cleveland Community Cat Project is a 501(c)(3) that helps advocate for unowned, free-roaming cats and connect friendly strays to rescue groups.
See you there!
Science Meets Summer Fun at Porter Public Library 📍 Westlake

The Westlake Porter Public Library is throwing the coolest & nerdiest party of the summer with their annual STEAM Week (July 14-18), packed with engineering challenges, slime-making, and stargazing that'll make your kids forget summer school exists.
Monday kicks off with skyscraper building for grades 1-2 (11 a.m.) and Freddy Fossil's dinosaur show for families (6:30 p.m.)
Tuesday brings rescue mission engineering for grades 3-5 (11 a.m.) and telescope stargazing for ages 10+ (9 p.m.)
Wednesday features teen maker projects (2 p.m.)
Thursday delivers the epic annual egg drop challenge, where kids build contraptions to protect falling eggs (11 a.m.-1 p.m.), plus drop-in slime making (2-4 p.m.)
Friday wraps up with a virtual aquarium adventure (10 a.m.)
Most activities require registration (check the library's website), but the egg drop and slime sessions are walk-ins, so you can spontaneously decide whether your Thursday needs more physics or more goo. It's basically summer camp for your brain, and the best part is it's FREE.
NEW MARKET
A New Market Pops up Again This Sunday 📍 Lakewood
Looking for something delightfully different on a Sunday? Swing by Laska Lakewood, a vibrant new street market popping up weekly at Cordova and Madison (right next to Mike’s Barbershop), where you’ll find vintage gems, original art, handmade goods, and even giant floating bubbles drifting through the air.
It’s part flea, part festival, and all community—Laska means “love” in Czech—and the momentum has been building fast since its May debut. Admission is free, vending is just $10, and if you spot a couple on rollerblades or bikes weaving through the crowd… yep, that’s probably us.

COMMUNITY BLEND
Westside Young Ladies Head to Washington 📍 Avon Lake & Westlake
Two Westside young ladies are heading to Washington D.C. today to become the youngest lobbyists you've ever heard of—Avon Lake's Savannah Coakley and Westlake's Kendall Adams are joining 170 other delegates for Breakthrough T1D's Children's Congress to advocate for type 1 diabetes funding.
Both girls were diagnosed at age 8, and they're fighting to renew the Special Diabetes Program, which provides $160 million for T1D research and has already revolutionized care with smartphone-connected glucose monitors and early detection tools.
The best part? Breakthrough T1D calls their support network "diabesties," and these fierce families are proving that sometimes the most powerful advocacy comes from kids who refuse to let a diagnosis define their future.
Westside Residents Brace for Blackouts Again 📍 Lakewood

This summer, few are facing more heat than the Haslams. That was until power outages ripped through Lakewood and the Westside, leaving FirstEnergy facing intense scrutiny.
Lakewood and Cleveland officials met with the utility to demand answers. The cause? A failing transformer at a Lakewood substation that won’t be fully replaced until 2026 or 2027 due to supply chain delays. FirstEnergy’s stopgap solution is a mobile substation that sounds about as reassuring as duck tape on a dam.
Meanwhile, utility workers are left scrambling to manage an unmanageable situation, and residents are left guessing when the next blackout will hit.
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has opened an investigation, but for now, thousands remain at the mercy of a crumbling grid.
NEW BUSINESS
New Sports Dome to be Built Downtown After All 📍 Cleveland

The Cosm in Los Angeles
Something rare is happening in downtown Cleveland. No it’s not a Browns winning season. It’s something very exciting coming to town that very few places have yet.
It’s called Cosm, and it’s basically what happens when a planetarium and a sports bar have a very ambitious, high-tech baby. You’ll soon be able to watch Monday Night Football, MMA fights, or Cirque du Soleil inside a giant 360° dome that will make you feel like you are on the field or in the ring.
The plan is for a four-story, 50,000-square-foot mega-venue that will sit right next to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse and is the first shiny jewel in Dan Gilbert’s new “Rock Block” development. Coming in 2027, get ready for a next-level experience you can only get in a handful of other places.
ADOPT A DOG
🚨 URGENT: The Cleveland Kennel Needs You 🐾
The Cleveland Kennel is overwhelmed after a surge of lost and stray dogs over the Fourth of July weekend—and sadly, many pups are now at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space. While about a quarter have been reunited with their owners, far too many remain unclaimed and vulnerable.
To help save lives, adoption fees have been reduced to just $21 through July 13. If you’ve ever considered adopting a dog, there’s never been a more critical time. You could be the difference between a kennel cage and a loving home.
