IX Center’s next act | Wallace Lake's new look
Happy Friday, Westsiders. June 6th is National Donut Day, also known as the only day when it’s socially acceptable to eat three donuts before 9 AM
Today, calories are suspended by federal law (probably). So go ahead: visit your favorite shop, grab a dozen, and tell yourself you’ll “share.” We all know how that ends.
Today we’re buzzing on:
🌲 Wallace Lake’s pavilion transformation
🐈 A giant check and adopting Princess
🎭 The day the State Theatre was revived
Let’s make it a great day,

A final farewell to the 🎵 IX Indoor Amusement Park 🎵 | Cleveland

Steve Jobs. Albert Einstein. Whoever created the IX Indoor Amusement Park jingle. All three are geniuses and visionaries in their respective fields.
If you grew up in Cleveland, that jingle isn’t just seared into your brain, it’s part of your DNA.
It saddens me to say that the IX Center, in its current location, will no longer host large staple events like the RV, Boat, Auto, Home, and Garden Shows.
Instead, it’s set for a new life as... drumroll... an Amazon data center.
Originally built to manufacture B-29 bombers during WWII, the IX Center pivoted to become Cleveland’s premier expo venue in the '80s. Now, it’s preparing for another transformation — into a high-powered hub for the digital age. The site’s on-location 25-megawatt substation makes it a perfect match for the energy demands of a modern data center (and yes, for fueling TikToks and cat videos worldwide).
According to city officials, the new tenant would bring up to 250 new jobs to the area — nothing to sneeze at.

Thanks to our amazing Westside Buzz community, who contributed to our Drinking Wine for the Animals Fundraiser, we cut a big check to the Cleveland APL yesterday… for $2,643!!!

You know we had to spring for the big check…
We spent the afternoon with all the good boys and girls hoping for a second chance. All they need is one special PURRson to change the rest of their lives… and yours!
There is one special girl we want to bring some attention to.
Princess is 15 years young and is the absolute sweetest girl in the world. All she wants is to lie on your lap and have her chin scratched. Sounds like Jodie after a full weekend of exploring our great Westside cities.

The head rest at the end made Jodie melt
Princess was surrendered in April because her owner could no longer care for her. Now we have one mission in life.

Wallace Lake renovations keep this gem shiny | Berea

📍 Wallace Lake Dr, Berea
One of the best things going right now is located in Berea…and no, its not the Browns facility.
Exciting new enhancements at Wallace Lake are redefining how the community connects with nature and recreation in the heart of the Cleveland Metroparks.
Among the highlights is the brand-new Wallace Lake Grille, a seasonal eatery offering fresh, made-to-order meals that invite guests to linger and enjoy the lakeside atmosphere.
Whether you’re stopping by for a meal at the Grille, spending a day on the water, or simply soaking in the fresh air, the revitalized Wallace Lake offers something for everyone.
WESTSIDE POUR OVER
What else is brewing?
🚀 Cleveland: Rocket Company clears the final hurdle of the acquisition of Redfin. Redfin shareholders agreed to approve the $1.75 billion all-stock sale to the large Cleveland employer mortgage lending giant.
🍇Olmsted Falls: The beloved Olde Wine Cellar is hanging up its full-bodied reds and exciting whites for good. Rumor has it that a popular Westside restaurant is looking to expand. Stay tuned!
TODAY(ISH) IN CLEVELAND HISTORY
State Theatre Rises Again

On June 9, 1984, the curtain rose once again at Cleveland’s historic State Theatre, marking a triumphant comeback after years of uncertainty and near-demolition.
Originally opened in 1921 as Loew’s State Theatre, the grand Italian Renaissance-style venue was built for vaudeville and movies, boasting the world’s longest theater lobby and murals representing the spirit of global storytelling.
But by 1969, like many of its Playhouse Square neighbors, it went dark, left to decay until a grassroots movement, sparked by a Life magazine photo spread, rallied to save it.
After years of passionate preservation efforts, the theater underwent a sweeping restoration, including a $7 million stagehouse addition, and reopened on that June evening as the new home for the Cleveland Ballet and Cleveland Opera.
It was a defining moment in Cleveland’s cultural revival, transforming Playhouse Square from a forgotten relic into one of the largest performing arts centers in the nation. Today, the now-renamed KeyBank State Theatre stands not just as a venue, but as a testament to the power of community, artistry, and second acts.
