Cleveland Clinic Invests Big in West Side Health Care 📍 Avon & Fairview Park

Courtesy the Cleveland Clinic
Big news for westside families: The Cleveland Clinic is making a $600 million investment in expanding care, starting with a major addition for its Avon campus.
The hospital and Richard E. Jacobs Family Health Center will nearly double in size to meet growing demand in Lorain County and beyond.
What’s coming? A new inpatient tower, more operating rooms, an expanded ER, and boosted imaging and lab services. Outpatient care is expanding with 90 new exam rooms and expanded cancer services, including radiation oncology and a lifetime supply of those paper rolls they pull over the exam room tables.
With surgeries, admissions, and imaging needs skyrocketing since 2017, the Clinic is meeting the demand by growing alongside its westside communities. Construction kicks off in 2026, wrapping in 2028. Bonus: Fairview Hospital is also getting in on the action with new buildings on the way.
Access to world-class care, even closer to home? Yes, please.
A reimagined historic space 📍 Lakewood

Body Fit Training on Lakewood’s Trinity Block
Lakewood’s new Trinity Block Market makes its debut this Sunday, June 29, at 11 AM, featuring local makers, food, drinks, and a DJ in the revamped church parking lot at 16400 Detroit Ave.
The market is part of a $3.75M project that transformed the old Trinity Lutheran Church into a vibrant hub with shops, green space, even a bocce court, and more.
Developers hope it becomes a walkable westside destination, with more events planned later this year and a full schedule in 2026.
Fur Real, Your Pet Might Be a Star 📍 Cleveland

Everyone thinks their pet is the cutest and should have millions of Instagram followers like Maxine the Fluffy Corgi. Well, here is your chance to prove it by entering your pet in the Cleveland APL Calendar Contest.
Here’s how it works:
Click here and pay the $35 entry fee (all proceeds go toward the shelter)
Your pet is guaranteed to be featured in the calendar
A celebrity panel will blind judge all entries to determine the top 11 who will get their own featured month
The deadline to enter your pet is Sunday, July 20th, so let’s get some of the Westside’s cutest pups, kitties, and others in this year’s calendar!
FOOD FRIDAY
Lava Lounge closes after 26 years in business 📍 Tremont
This Saturday is your final chance to say goodbye to the Lava Lounge in Tremont. Opened by Ricardo Sandoval (Fat Cats), it has long been the go-to late-night watering hole for off-the-clock bartenders, line cooks, and other nocturnal creatures of the service industry.
Even better? A portion of the proceeds is going to the Cleveland APL’s Project CARE. So yes, you can drink for a good cause—finally, your bad decisions have a moral backbone.
Interesting to note that the owners sold the business themselves to ensure that the new owner would fit the vibe of the neighborhood.
The good news? It’s Edison’s Pizza Kitchen taking over—returning from their 2-year Tremont sabbatical to once again bless us with that gooey cheese, thick crust, and those pepperonis that curl up like they’re trying to hear the gossip on your plate.
It’s truth time, Westsiders.

Cordelia team to open a new concept 📍 Ohio City

Cordelia is bringing its award-winning "Modern Grandma" cuisine to Ohio City’s Hingetown this fall. Chef Vinnie Cimino and co-owner Andrew Watts will open a second, 33-seat location in the former Alea space on Church Avenue, featuring live-fire cooking and the same "Midwest Nice" hospitality that put their East 4th Street spot on the map.
If you haven’t been, the pork belly legitimately changed mine and Jodie’s lives.
While full details are still under wraps, the team promises a thoughtful, intimate experience that reflects their passion for storytelling, sourcing, and craft. This marks an exciting new chapter for one of Cleveland’s most celebrated culinary teams.
🍜 For Those About to Wok 📍 Avon

The Sesame Garlic Bowl looks amazing
Get ready, Avon! Honeygrow is about to stir things up in the best way possible.
The vibrant fast-casual spot is known for its sizzling stir-fries, crisp and colorful salads, and sweet, build-your-own honeybars —all made fresh to order is coming to the corner of Nagel and Chester.
From shrimp bowls to the overall customizability (not sure if that’s a word but it’s Friday who cares), people love this Philly-based spot for the fresh and quick lunch bowls.
We are looking forward to giving Honeygrow a try when it officially opens in Late July.
Have you been to Honeygrow before? If so, what did you think? |

In honor of the Ohio Scottish Games & Celtic Festival let's talk tossing. In traditional Scottish Highland Games, the goal of the caber toss isn’t to throw the caber the farthest. What is the true objective of this event? |
