Ohio City's new boutique hotel? & 23 big things happening this week
TOGETHER WITH NüIQ WELLNESS LOUNGE & MED SPA

Good morning, Westsiders.
On this date in 1813, Oliver Hazard Perry strategically sailed his fleet from Presque Isle to Put-in-Bay, which was a pivotal decision that put the American naval fleet in position to take down the British in the Battle of Lake Erie.
This is a far cry from today, as most people sail into Put-in-Bay and wake up wondering where their dignity went.
Today we’re buzzing on:
🌳 A new hotel coming to Ohio City?
🍻 Award-winning, buzz-worthy Westside brews
🚴 The Bay Village Principal who biked 326 miles
See you out there!

COMMUNITY BLEND
The Mall of America Has Nothing on The Westside 📍 Westlake

Courtesy Crocker Park
Crocker Park has been named the No. 1 retail center experience in the country by a very serious-sounding publication called Chain Store Age — which, if we’re being honest, sounds less like an industry magazine and more like a band that plays county fairs.
It’s great to see the vision play out as a success, no matter how many times you spend your entire Saturday “just running one quick errand.”
So congrats to Westlake’s finest outdoor mall. We always knew you were No. 1… now even Chain Store Age agrees.
Hometown Girl Invited to Tennis in the Land 📍 The Flats

Westlake’s Anna Bennett, 17, has earned a wild card entry into Cleveland’s Tennis in the Land tournament, bringing her hometown pride to the pro stage.
The five-star Ohio State recruit is ranked among the top 80 high school players in the nation, with titles and finals appearances at some of the biggest junior events in the world.
From the Cleveland Racquet Club to international courts, she’s proving she’s one to watch — and she’s doing it right here at home.
Tennis in the Land turns The Flats into ‘Westside Wimbledon’ from August 16—23.

REAL ESTATE
Boutique Hotel Made From Mass Timber 📍 Ohio City

The proposed hotel would be located in the parking lot on the corner of W. 26th and Lorain
Ohio City might be getting more welcoming. While the neighborhood has no hotels nearby, that can change thanks to developer Dan Whalen, the mind behind the award-winning Intro building — the largest mass timber structure in the U.S. when it opened.
Whalen has plans to bring a Marriott boutique hotel to the area, adding stylish accommodations and marking another exciting step in Ohio City’s growth as a must-visit destination for both locals and out-of-towners.

BEER
Buzz-Worthy Westside Brews from the 2025 U.S. Open Beer Championship
This year’s U.S. Open Beer Championship was held in Oxford, Ohio, and the Westside showed up strong. Five breweries from our neck of the woods took home some of the most prestigious awards known to all serious beer drinkers.
First of all … how does one land the prestigious job of professional beer taster? Asking for a friend who's had plenty of unpaid experience.
Anyway, here are some of the local highlights worth drinking a sneaky pint to:
🍻 Sibling Revelry made the top ten for “Best Beer Name” with their gluten-free gem: “Olly Olly Gluten-Free.”
🥉 Twin Oast Brewing (Port Clinton) snagged bronze for Best Golden/Blonde Ale, and later won Best German Hefeweizen.
🥈 Market Garden on West 25th brought home the silver for Best Strong Scottish Ale and bronze for their Krispi IPA.
🥈 The Brew Kettle in Strongsville won silver for Best Imperial Red Ale and silver in the best South German Weizenbock.
🥇 And no surprise here—Schnitz Ale Brewery took home gold for Best German Wheat Ale. (It also happens to be our favorite, but we’re totally unbiased.)
While Denver’s Bull & Bush Brewery walked away with the Grand National Champion title, it’s clear: Cleveland’s Westside is brewing with the best of them.

WESTSIDE POUR OVER
🌯 North Olmsted: Chipotle has some competition as Qdoba is opening a location in the old Boston Market location. The location opened last month, but the grand opening celebration was this past weekend. Here at The Westside Buzz, we are a Chipotle household, but we know plenty of people who ride for Qdoba.
Who 'ya got? |
🚴 Bay Village: Dan Sebring, Normandy Elementary Principal, completed a 326-mile bicycle trip from Lake Erie to the Ohio River. The Ohio to Erie Trail is a scenic path that travels along canals and railways and connects the two major water features that border our great state. Congrats, Dan!
👩🌾 Ohio City: Ohio City Farm has built its first permanent facilities in 15 years, creating a hub that will process produce, open a public farm store in 2025, and expand job opportunities for Cleveland’s immigrant and refugee community.

LAST WEEK’S MOST CLICKED
Branka’s Bake Haus & Market just opened in Brunswick, marking the Djurin family’s fourth West Side business since arriving from Germany 25 years ago.
Tavo’s Tacos in North Ridgeville is bringing Mexico City to the Westside. The Birria Tacos were some of the best Mexican food we have ever eaten.
