Westside Buzz Coat Drive Kickoff
At The Westside Buzz, we’re all about community. Over the years, we’ve seen firsthand how much impact a small act of kindness can have—especially for those transitioning from temporary to permanent housing at LMM Men’s Shelter on Lakeside Avenue.
This winter, we’re teaming up with Old River Tap and Social in Rocky River to make a difference. Here’s the deal: bring in your gently used winter coats or unused toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.) and the amazing folks at Old River will hook you up with a great drink special as a thank-you.
Keep an eye out for Friday’s newsletter, as we will have the specifics of the drop-off dates and drink specials finalized.
Let’s come together to help make this winter a little warmer for those who need it most. Stay tuned for more details, and get those coats ready! ❄️💙
P.S. Because what’s better than giving back and grabbing a great drink? Cheers to kindness! 🥂
🏃♀️Cleveland Turkey Trot
If you are looking to work up your appetite for Thanksgiving, the 43rd Annual Cleveland Turkey Trot is Thursday, November 28th.
You can participate in one of the three events. 1 Mile walk, 5k, and 5 mile. You can register on race day for $50, which gets you a medal for finishing, a long-sleeved T-shirt, and post-race refreshments.
PSA: 🦃 Don’t Let Turkey Day Go Up in Flames
Thanksgiving isn’t just the biggest day for feasting—it’s also the peak day for home-cooking fires. Here’s how to keep your holiday fire-free while still impressing the family with your culinary skills.
Frying a Turkey?
Rule #1: Don’t fry it in your garage, basement, or anywhere inside. (Yes, people really try this.) Keep it outside, have a fire extinguisher handy, and please don’t let the dog near the stove.
Clutter is Not Your Friend.
Pizza boxes on the stove? Towels draped on the oven handle? Kitchen clutter is a fire waiting to happen.
Fire Extinguishers Are Your Friend
Make sure your extinguisher is actually usable—Grandma shouldn’t have to wrestle a 20-pound tank. Keep it somewhere easy to grab (not buried under the sink) and, for the love of all things roasted, know how to use it.

Lakewood Announces Funding For Lake-Clifton Connector Project
A huge win for west-side cyclists, pedestrians, and runners was just announced. Rocky River, Lakewood, and Cuyahoga County have approved the estimated $9.6 million project, which will make the 1.2-mile bridge much safer and pedestrian friendly.
The final plans show a shared-use trail separate from the road

As someone who has traversed this sketchy bridge many times, I am excited about the potential of this project.
Based on the renderings, the trail will be raised to offer unobstructed views of the mouth of the Rocky River and Lake Erie. (Check out the full story here)
Today In Cleveland History
🚀 Cleveland’s Big Leap: Celebrating NASA’s Roots
Let’s rewind to November 25, 1940—a date that changed Cleveland forever. That’s when it was announced that the NACA (the precursor to NASA’s John Glenn Research Center) would call Cleveland home.
On November 26th, the Cleveland Press ran a cartoon celebrating how monumental this was for the city—and they weren’t wrong. Fast forward to today, and over 3,000 employees are still driving innovation at the Glenn Research Center, putting Cleveland on the map for cutting-edge aerospace and tech.
It’s a great reminder that Cleveland doesn’t just reach for the stars—we help make the journey possible.
P.S. The next time you fly in a plane or admire a rocket launch, chances are some of that magic started right here. (Here is the full story)

Our Avon Eagle’s Dominance Continues
For the second season in a row, the Avon Eagles have won the Division II region. The Eagles scored on their first play from scrimmage and never looked back.
They beat the Highland Hornets 28 - 20 in the 2024 regional final to make it the 6th time in 10 years the Eagles knocked out their rivals. (Click here for a full recap)
Avon will face the familiar Archbishop Hoban Knights in the state semifinal. This marks the sixth time in eight years they will play, with Hoban taking the last two.
In a peculiar decision, the OHSAA decided to host the neutral site game this Friday at Infocision Stadium in Akron. Hoban is about a mile from the University of Akron stadium making it an even tougher test for our Eagles.
Let’s Go Avon!
