☕ A very unusual commute in North Ridgeville

Plus: Lakewood's skline is changing, honoring Jerry Galant, and some hot events to warm you up

Good morning, Westsiders.

Growing up in Cleveland — me as a child of the late 80s and Jodie of the 90s — Bernie Kosar was a living legend and the star of many heated uncle debates at Thanksgiving dinner. The guy who could thread a pass through impossible coverage and somehow make us believe we could win it all.

Well, we're giving thanks this week as Bernie recently underwent successful liver transplant surgery. As someone who's been through the ups and downs and has remained endlessly optimistic about this city, Bernie really is the personification of Cleveland — tough, resilient, and never giving up hope.

Get well soon, Bernie. We're all rooting for you, just like you always rooted for us.

Today we’re buzzing on:

  • North Ridgeville or Yellowstone?

  • The new sushi capital of Cleveland is…

  • Short Takes on the Westside

Have a great week, friends,

Have a Look: SOLO Ohio City Townhouse

Before we jump into The Buzz, here is a quick look at a real estate listing shared by one of our community partners.

Property details shared by our community partner

4191 Lorain Court, Cleveland

If you’ve been watching the SOLO pocket of Ohio City, here’s a new-build worth a look.

This townhome gives you nearly 2,600 sq. ft. of hard-to-find space for the neighborhood. When you walk through, it becomes apparent the main level is all about openness — a big kitchen with quartz counters and seating for five or six, a dining area that fits a real table, and a living room with tall ceilings, natural light, a fireplace, and a balcony.

Upstairs, the primary suite has a walk-in closet and double-sink bath, plus great light from north-facing windows. A second bedroom, full bath, and laundry round out the floor.

The top level is a bonus hangout space with a wet bar, powder room, and two rooftop decks — including one with skyline views. Perfect for morning coffee or evening unwind time.

Other helpful features: first-floor flex room, attached garage with EV charging, energy-efficient build, and tax abatement through 2034. All appliances included. And you can chip a golf ball to Heart of Gold, Duck Rabbit Coffee, and the bustling Lorain Avenue.

3 bed | 3.5 bath | ~2,600 sq. ft. | Price available on the listing

The Westside or Yellowstone? 📍 North Ridgeville

horses trotting down center ridge

Footage courtesy WKYC

If you drove down Center Ridge Road last week, you might’ve wondered whether North Ridgeville had been secretly cast in the next season of Yellowstone. It’s not that crazy to rationalize, considering Cleveland’s newfound film production success.

Police dashcam footage shows the whole rodeo — and the 911 call is an instant classic.

In the must-hear dispatch, the caller calmly reports:
“I was calling to let you know there are four really pretty horses running down Center Ridge right now.”

For about 30 minutes, Joey and his three equine partners-in-crime trotted through town, causing the most wholesome traffic jam in Westside history. With help from officers and a few good-hearted locals, the gang was safely rounded up and returned to their farm. No tickets issued for excessive horseplay.

Westline is Rising 📍 Lakewood

Photos courtesy of The Westside Buzz

One of Lakewood’s two major construction projects is officially taking shape. Westline, the long-awaited apartment complex on Detroit, is cruising along and set to open in early 2026.

If you remember the old Steve Barry Buick lot — the abandoned, seen-better-days eyesore — this transformation feels extra sweet. Lakewood finally traded in a patch of blight for something that actually adds to the neighborhood.

And what a neighborhood to land in. This stretch of Detroit is already packed with walkable favorites: Merry Arts, Bar Italia, Funktiniland, Lakewood Plant Co., and plenty of other local spots that keep the block buzzing.

Once Westline brings 190 new residential units and 10,000 square feet of commercial space, it’s going to be fascinating to see how this whole corridor evolves. More foot traffic, more storefront energy, more life.

Sushi Capital of Cleveland 📍 Ohio City

The Hinoki Counter at Sushi Kuwahata

Fulton Road in Ohio City is quietly becoming the sushi capital of Cleveland.

It started this summer when Kyuu-juu, the cult-favorite sushi pop-up, opened inside a renovated century home next to Tinnerman Lofts. The space is intimate, the reviews are glowing, and the menu is packed with chopstick-friendly sushi bites, shareable small plates, and legit Japanese drinks that taste like they came straight from Tokyo.

But the real plot twist? Head upstairs.

The second floor now houses Sushi Kuwahata, a tiny, ultra-premium dining experience that feels like stepping into Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Think seasonally perfect ingredients flown in from Tokyo, prepared with quiet precision, and served piece-by-piece in a 15–20 course omakase that Chef Kwan conducts like a maestro leading a symphony.

At the center of it all is a showstopper: A single, 150-year-old Japanese cypress counter — the stage where every dish is crafted, one perfect bite at a time.

This level of craftsmanship comes with a Cleveland-skyline-level price tag: $350 per seat, only 8 seats per night, and service just Saturday through Monday. Reservations vanish faster than the last piece of toro.

Jodie and I are sushi enthusiasts, and we’re already eyeing a reservation this winter for a special occasion. If you beat us to it… Save us a seat.

We are curious, would you consider spending $350 on an ultra premium sushi experience at Sushi Kuwahata?
