Paw Patrol: Joggers and First Responders Save the Day 📍 Bay Village

Bay Village first responders went above and beyond recently after a house fire broke out on East Oakland Road. Joggers spotted smoke and a dog in distress inside, prompting police to quickly break through a window to pull the dog out and perform CPR.
Firefighters from Bay Village and nearby cities rushed to the scene and rescued a second dog, also reviving it with CPR before both pets were taken to an animal hospital. The homeowner confirmed she wasn’t home but had three dogs and a turtle inside. While two dogs were saved thanks to heroic efforts, the turtle and third dog sadly did not survive.

Easy Out Bar opening 📍 Lakewood
The owners of Spotted Owl, Prosperity Social Club, Good Company, and Old 86, are bringing a new Sports Bar to the east end of Lakewood called Easy Out. I know what youre thinking, Lakewood needs more bars like my Subaru needs more dried salt on it.
Will Hollingsworth’s hospitality group saw a rare opportunity to open in a iconic spot in an iconic neighborhood and jumper at the chance. It will be located in the space once occupied by The Ohio Inn (11822 Detroit Ave) where patrons can look forward to amples screens, classic cleveland memorobilia, unique takes on stadium fare, and “dad” beer.
They’re aiming to be opened by Super Bowl Sunday. Full story in Cleveland Magazine.
Nature and Curiosity
Jodie and I were driving back from Little Italy down the shoreway and glanced over at Edgewater and gazed at the lake. At first my mind went imaging an 80 degree summer day and feeling like we couldn’t be farther from that point.
Then Jodie asked a great question. How often does Lake Erie completely freeze over? So we did what any curious person in 2026 does — we went to the library googled it.
What we found was very interesting to a weather nerd like myself.
Even though Lake Erie is the southernmost Great Lake, it averages more ice cover because it is the shallowest. Smart folks like Joseph Atkinson, director of the Great Lakes Program at University of Buffalo describes this is thermal intertia. The higher the thermal inertia the more resistant to temperature change. Lake Erie has the lowest value of the Great Lakes, therefore, it tends to freeze fastest.
Enough fancy science jargon. Let’s get to the good stuff, Briggs.
When was the last year that Lake Erie froze completely over? |
